Saks is a thriving brand of department stores in the United States. There are 45 Saks stores across the country, with their flagship store being Saks Fifth Avene in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

This iconic piece of NYC shopping has been around since 190, on 34th Street and Broadway. You might just recognize it from the Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street.

Now, the beloved department store is home to shops hosting high end fashion, home furnishings, clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup products, and everything in-between.

Now, before we talk about this entry on our list, we need to acknowledge the obvious. Unfortunately, Barneys as we know it closed down in 2020 as another fallen victim to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The shopping giant was alive in New York from 1923 until 2020 when it went into bankruptcy.

However, not all is lost as you can still visit Barneys at Saks within Saks Fifth Avenue if you want a taste of what the giant once was.

5. Pearl River Mart

Our last entry to the list might seem very different from the rest, and it is, but it definitely still deserves its spot on this list.

Our last famous New York department store is the Pearl River Mart on 452 Broadway in Lower Manhattan. This is an Asian mall that offers all sorts of products from Asian cultures, including fashion, food, and furniture.

A lovely hint to the cultural and ethnic diversity in NYC, this department store has become increasingly popular since its debut in 1971. New York is all about the people who make up the city and it is important to remember that those people come from all over the world.
