"Delicious Soul Food and Soul-stirring Jazz Music!"
It’d be difficult to find a better activity on your next trip to New York City than an evening of soul food and jazz music. But that’s exactly what the Harlem Soul Food & Jazz Tour is all about – good fun, good music and tasty food! A professional tour guide will join your ride through Harlem, dispensing information about the famous neighborhood’s connection with the history of jazz music. Get ready to swing by the well-known Cotton Club, the legendary nightclub opened in the 1920s, hosting many of the greatest names in jazz music – from Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald to Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong. Then there’s the Savoy Ballroom, famous for popularizing dances like the Lindy Hop and the Charleston, and battle of the bands contests between jazz greats like Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Chick Webb.
But the fun continues in Harlem! Experience the renowned Apollo Theater, where iconic talents like Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and James Brown have all played over the years. All this jazz history and Harlem sightseeing will make anyone hungry – and that means dinner at Sylvia's Restaurant. Sylvia Woods is lovingly referred to as the "The Queen of Soul Food," so prepare for a wonderful culinary experience! From southern fried chicken and (famous) bar-b-que ribs to stewed turkey wings, get ready for traditional African American cuisine that’ll knock your socks off! The tour runs Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Monday features swing dancing to a big band, with free dance lessons! For Thursdays and Saturdays, enjoy a jazz or R&B group in one of Harlem’s top clubs.
