"Hold on to That Feelin’ and Head to Broadway to Rock Out to the 80s!"
When was the last time you had a Broadway experience like this? Rock of Ages takes 28 of the hard-rockingest songs ever written and spins them into an entirely new musical about hair bands, first love and guitar riffs that just won't end. The year is 1987, and this is the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit and the small-town girl he meets in L.A., where they're both chasing dreams of stardom and rock glory. Along the way, hopes will be dashed, passions will soar and egos will be messed with in a big way. Oh, and men and women will sing these big honking rock songs where they hit high notes and hold them for a really long time.
The totally awesome song catalog includes such smash hits as "Don't Stop Believin'," "We Built This City," "The Final Countdown," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Here I Go Again," "Can't Fight This Feeling" and "I Want to Know What Love Is." Dude, seriously. Why aren't you seeing this show?
This is one show that has its tongue firmly in its cheek, and if you grew up in a certain generation, you'll love every single minute of it. (Actually, if you're the kids of people of a certain generation, you've probably grown up with this music too, and this show will also be right up your alley). Rock of Ages delivers on several fronts. First, it's funny. Like laugh-out-loud funny. Like "talk-about-the jokes-for-days-afterward funny." We're not kidding. Also, the songs kick it. They're rock tunes you know and love, and you'll hear them belted in all their glory.
What's more, there's the hair. There's really, really great hair on stage in this show. You'll remember the hair for years to come. Trust us. Oh! To top it all off, this thing's being made into a major motion picture starring a teeny weeny movie star you may have heard of named Tom Cruise. But! You can say you knew it when, if you see it now on Broadway. (As if you wouldn't).
