"The Winner Takes It All at This Enormously Enjoyable Broadway Smash!"
This is what a Broadway hit musical sounds like: They've taken the completely winning songbook of ABBA's greatest hits and wrapped them around a whole new story about love and family. Set on a romantic Greek isle on the eve of a young woman's wedding, Mamma Mia! is about a bride-to-be's search for her true identity - and that of her father. Much to her mother's shock, she's done a little digging and invited the three men she suspects might be the guy. But who is really her dad? And what will her mother think? And is there the possibility for a rekindled romance from years gone by for her mom and the old flame?
Rounding out the wedding party are the young bride's handsome hunk of a husband and the mom's fun-spirited gal pals. The incredibly infectious score features such 70s classics as "The Winner Takes It All," "Dancing Queen," "Voulez-Vous," "Gimme Gimme Gimme" and "Chiquita." Put on your dancing shoes and head to Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre. Because you're cordially invited to the wedding to end them all. And one thing's for sure: This is going to be a joyous celebration.
Mamma Mia! has a lot going for it, but more than anything, it delivers a great time. At the end of every performance the audience literally leaps to its feet and dances along to one of the greatest finales on Broadway. A whole generation of people grew up loving the music of ABBA, so they have a fabulous time hearing this music performed live... and trying to guess how their favorite disco hits are going to get worked into the ever-inventive story. This means Mamma Mia! is a great groups show (it's a fantastic way to celebrate a girls' night out, a bridal party or just a big group of friends who want to cut loose on the town).
It's also a great family show, except for the very young. Kids will have an incredible night dancing along to the music and watching the crowd get into the whole experience. Mamma Mia! is pretty much a show for everyone, which is rare. That also makes it an absolute must-see.
