Empire State Building Observatory

"Spectacular Views of the Big Apple!"

Nothing says “New York” quite like the Empire State Building. Soaring 1,454 feet above the busy streets of midtown Manhattan, the iconic skyscraper is the tallest in the city and the most photographed landmark in the world. Whether you want the spectacular 80-mile views enjoyed on a clear, sunny day, or the romance of twinkling city lights by moonlight, the Empire State Building Observatory on the 86th floor will get you in an Empire State of Mind.
  • The 360-degree views from the Empire State Building’s 86th floor observatory cannot be beat. From the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, there’s not much you can’t see from more than a quarter-mile high above the heart of Manhattan!
  • In perfect conditions you can see five states from the observatory: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
  • A saxophonist serenades visitors on the 86th floor observatory Thursday through Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • See the city in even greater detail with the high-powered binoculars available on the promenade for a nominal fee.
  • Design aficionados will love every art deco detail — from an aluminum relief of the skyscraper in the lobby and the stunning mural on the entryway’s three-storey ceiling to the original elevators and the pre-War letter box.
  • If you want to avoid the longest lines at security check, the best time to visit is first thing in the morning (doors open at 8 a.m.) or around 3 p.m. in the afternoon.
  • For an extra fee, enjoy the self-guided audio tour’s collection of stories and fascinating facts about New York City. The seven 3-minute segments correspond to seven numbered views from the Empire State Building Observatory.
  • Want to go even higher? Take a walk in the clouds on the Empire State Building’s 102nd floor observatory. At 1,250 feet above the streets below, the 102nd floor observatory is the highest point tourists can reach in Manhattan.
  • Tickets purchased online are good for one year after the date of purchase.
  • All visitors must have their bags inspected. It’s a good idea to leave large bags at home or in your hotel.
  • Please keep in mind the Empire State Building has a long list of prohibited items, including weapons, glass bottles, tripods, musical instruments, and masks.
  • Please print voucher before arrival
